Interview: Valentine's Day x NYSD

-S.B.Blogspot: Hello Love, Speak Your Name.

Heya, I'm an NYSD Girl, Teneille aka Tee. I'm the Co-Founder and Creative Editor for NY STYLE DIARY.

-S.B.Blogspot: Where are you Reppin' From?

Tee: People usually know right away that I'm a Brooklyn Girl (laughs), but what they don't know right away, is that I'm from Brownsville, YUP!! Never ran, never will (laughs), so yeah I'm from the real hood not the rap hood.

-S.B.Blogspot: What's Your Daily Grind?

Tee: I'm a worker bee, so I'm up every day, even on weekends at 6:30 a.m. to start my day, and get my daily fix of current events on Good Morning America. I have a '9 to '5 as the coordinator of an Art & Design Initiative for disabled children, and I also do PR for a theater company as well. I'm a spur of the moment type girl, so I usually end up running tons of unexpected errands during my lunch break, and after work. As of late, I find myself ritually having dinner at my Moms, and then I'll head to my place around 10:00 p.m. to either catch up on quality time with Yung, or run my mouth with the girls till the after hours.

-S.B.Blogspot: Discuss Your Fashionista Style, What Influences It, and What Inspires You as a Woman?

Tee: Can I just say I love this question!! My personal style is pretty signature, because I'm all about detailing. I stick with solids and basics, but get killer with the accessories. I'm heavy into sunglasses, bags, shoes, makeup, and don't forget, the perfect perfume which in my opinion seals a woman's presence. I'm a real girly girl, so I'm into manicures, facials, and all the beauty regimens that keep a woman looking most alive, and feeling most refreshing. The glamour and sophistication of the 1930's along with the structured flamboyance of the 1950's are my major influences. I would've loved to have danced the night away at the Cotton Club, while Cab Calloway performed or have been a Hollywood starlet alongside Audrey in the 50's. As a woman, my Grandmother is the source of my inspiration, and she's so beautiful to me. She lives such a full life, and is very knowledgeable on everything from tailoring to herbal teas. She has lived in Europe, travelled all over the world, and has a serious high fashion vintage wardrobe. She retired from the design department at Calvin Klein in the 80's, so I was practically raised to a fashionista.

-S.B.Blogspot: When it Comes to Celebrities Both Men & Women, Who Do You Think Has The Most Fashion Sense?

Tee: Ok, so if I say Kanye would that be too obvious? (laughs). Of course Kanye has a great sense of style, but men's designer Jay Kos (and not just because I work with him during the year) has an uber amazing style sense. I've seen him wear an original bespoke wool blazer on the hottest day of the year, and not bust one sweat bead. Also, don't sleep on Mary Kate Olson, She has some of the dopest avant garde pieces ever!!

-S.B.Blogspot: Tee, What's The Vision Behind NYSD?

Tee: NYSD is truly style through the eyes of Shaina, Cece, and myself; at heart it's a diary. Every piece is a piece we either own already or genuinely love, because we actually listen to every song and go to every party. Someone's always asking us what they should wear or where can they hang out on weekends. So, we took it to another level by starting NY STYLE DIARY, and the reception has been astounding. Keeping it personal makes it easy to maintain, because its truly our lifestyle.

-S.B.Blogspot: What Are Your Favorite Brands and Why?

Tee: If you know anything about me, then you know I'm a die hard Marc Jacobs addict. I don't say this, because it sounds cool, but because my body is eerily the perfect Marc Jacobs mannequin. Women go their entire lives searching for that perfect pair of jeans, from that designer that fits their bodies to the tee (no pun intended, laughs), and I've found that friend in MJ being the perfect MJ Size 6. Sunglasses wise, Ray Ban's no matter what style fits my face perfectly, and Urban always has some great accessories.

-S.B.Blogspot: What Do You Think Overall About The State of Fashion, and Music?

Tee: I absolutely LOVE where fashion and music are right now. Our music is aligned perfectly with the statement that fashions been making lately, because we're not afraid to loosen up and have some fun. I remember as a teenager when rap was way more aggressive, fashion was also. Back in the day, you could easily get robbed for your kicks or jacket. I remember it being so gorilla that heads would have to turn their jackets along with other vulnerable pieces inside out or only wear them when they were with a group, because they didn't want to get robbed. Nowadays, I think fashion fiends are more in a laid back cool mode; It's like we actually live Flashing Lights, The Cool, basically we want Supra Daddies, you know?

*Editors Thoughts: Some Supras are dope..

-S.B.Blopspot: What Are Your Favorite Pair of Sneakers Ever?

Tee: Ever? It would have to be my first pair of sneakers, MY ADIDAS!! I come from an extremely flashy family, and my Uncle JR, complete with the Geri Curl and Members Only jacket, brought me my Adidas in 1984 at the height of their popularity. This was before heads were spending hundreds on Jordans, so me being the only baby on the block with some fresh white adidas was a big deal.

-S.B.Blogspot: Now What Are Your Favorite High End Pumps Ever?

Tee: Just as mysterious and exclusive as a Berkin bag, I think every shoe obsessed fashionista will agree that the Manolo Blahnik Mary Janes are a sight for sore eyes, but in my collection hands down my Via Spiga Spectators are the best.

-S.S.Blogspot: What Does it Take to be a NYSD Sweetheart?

Tee: Well you need to be sweet of course!! (laughs). An NYSD Sweetheart is someone whom you can depend on to make you smile, whether they'll have a great joke to tell you, or some great music for you to vibe to; they ultimately have something that will leave you inspired.

-S.B.Blogspot: What's The Number 1 Thing You Can't Live Without?

Tee: I can't live without a pair of incognitos!! My shades!! You never know who'll catch you creeping out of whose crib after some wild drunken party night, so you always have to be prepared for the paparazzi. Hey, we don't put everything in the diary, we do keep a little bit of it separate for our sanity!! (laughs).

-S.B.Blogspot: What's Next for Tee, and The NYSD Girls?

Tee: Professionally, writing will become my priority for 2008. I'll also be doing some fashion writing for Clutch Magazine this year, and I'm preparing to write for a beautiful movie!! I can't give away the details just yet, but it will be a major picture. Personally Tee is living life and loving it all at that!! DJ'ing, travelling, reading, writing, and loving!! As far as the NYSD Girls, we're everywhere!! Our online boutique will be opening this Spring, which we're very excited about!! We'll be going to London soon, which is exciting since Shaina and I have never been there. We have friends out there, and we also contribute to an international blog based in London ran by Reggie Yates, "www.pozblogs.biz" which adds to our beautifully growing London base. We have a major event in the works for Fashion Week this September as well, so the NYSD Girls are always busy.

-S.B.Blogspot: What Advice Would You Give to Anyone That Wants to Start a Blog, or Website?

Tee: Don't worry about what anyone else is blogging if you truly believe in what you have to offer your readers, but only worry about "topping" yourself, and don't forget to have fun!!

-S.B.Blogspot: Tee, THANK YOU for such a dope interview!! Would You Like to Say Anything Before We Heart You as Our Valentine?

Tee: Of course a shameless plug to: NYSTYLEDIARY.COM, and FYI, don't be jealous girlies, but Troy is actually really my sweetheart. ;-)

Editors Thoughts: Oh yea, we valentine our NYSD girls !!
